Trailer
A Powerful, Provocative and Timely Feature Documentary Film That Gives a Voice to the Bullied Child.
"Sticks and stones may break your bones but Words DO hurt; Words Kill. In 2011, young people are subjected to comments such as, "You're so GAY," "Faggot," "Sissy," "EMO," "Ugly," "Fat," "Slut,"" and told "Just go Kill Yourself" in person and on the internet.
Since we began pre-production on "Bullied to Silence," a few of the tragic losses of life include a 10 year old who hanged himself; a 17 year old flung himself from a bridge and, in September 2011, a 14 year old New York boy took his life after being victimized by hateful and hurtful comments. Recent tragedies include a 10 year old North Carolina girl and a 10 year old Illinois girl, both of whom took their lives mid-November 2011 after persistent verbal bullying.
Approximately 160,000 young people miss school every day out of fear of being bullied. More than 7 of 10 students report bullying as an ongoing issue.
Every child deserves respect, honor and dignity regardless of his sexual orientation or what it is perceived to be. 90% of LGBT students are verbally abused at school.
"Bullied to Silence," offers an inspirational message to the child who is desperately seeking a reason to live. Some feel helpless, hopeless, and without healthy options. Honest and heartfelt stories will empower those who remain “Bullied to Silence."
It will empower Bystanders to unite to stop bullying. Enabled by the power of the camera, Survivors will provide a painful glimpse of the tremendous loss felt without that special person who took his or her life because of hateful words.
Parents and educators will connect to others who share their frustrations, anger, thoughts and solutions with the role of the home, schools, and society on bullying. While in production, this film already began to change lives and make an impact.
Organizations such as ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), GLAAD (The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network), HRC (Human Rights Campaign), It Gets Better Project, PFLAG (Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), Teen Lifeline, and The Trevor Project will be identified as resources.
Discussions, tool kits, advocacy opportunities and other actions and assets will be provided with the film, through the website and in cooperation with other partners.
Let's end hatred, discrimination and bullying NOW so that there are no more youth BULLIED to SILENCE.
